Quick answer

Who is Pennsylvania Leak Detection?

Pennsylvania Leak Detection is a leak detection referral service. When you call (833) 768-3032, we listen to what is happening, help you rule out simple causes, and connect you with an independent local leak detection professional who pinpoints the leak and documents it in writing.

Why This Site Exists

Most leak calls start the same way: a water bill that doubled, a damp basement wall, or a meter that will not stop moving. Homeowners do not need a guess or a jackhammer. They need someone to find the exact spot and explain it plainly.

Pennsylvania has some of the oldest plumbing in the country. About a quarter of occupied homes were built before 1940, and the median home dates to 1964, according to a Pennsylvania Realtors summary of state housing data. Old galvanized lines, lead service lines, cast iron drains and copper under basement slabs all fail in ways you cannot see.

On top of that, the rules change from town to town. In Philadelphia the owner is responsible for the service line all the way to the main. On Pennsylvania American Water systems, the owner’s part starts at the curb stop. Some utilities offer leak credits and some, like Aqua, say they do not. We built this site to explain those rules town by town, in our service area pages, and to get the right person to your door.

How We Work

You call one number. We help you check the obvious things first, then send a local leak detection technician who proves the leak, isolates the line, pinpoints the spot with two methods and writes it all down.

1

Call

Tell us what you are seeing. We walk you through a quick meter check and help rule out a running toilet or irrigation zone.

2

Schedule

You get a time window and the price before anyone drives over. Water through a ceiling goes to the front of the line.

3

Pinpoint

The technician pressure tests, isolates and pinpoints the leak with acoustic, thermal and tracer gas methods as needed.

4

Report

You get the location, readings, photos, likely cause and repair options in writing.

See exactly what each test does on our leak detection services page, or read the Pennsylvania leak detection cost guide before you call.

What We Hold Every Job To

Our standard is simple: no opening a wall, floor or yard until the leak has been confirmed by a second method, and no visit ends without a written record.

Non-invasive first

Pressure, acoustic, thermal, moisture and tracer gas testing come before any cut. When an opening is needed, it is one small, planned opening.

Proof, not opinions

Meter readings, pressure results and photos go in the report, so your utility, insurer or plumber sees the same evidence.

Plain answers

You hear what failed, why it failed and what the repair options are, without pressure to buy the biggest one.

Honest pricing

The price is quoted on the phone before testing starts. If a visit cannot help you, we tell you that too.

Licensing and Registration in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania has no statewide plumbing license, so registration and local licensing are what protect you. Ask any contractor, including the technician we send, for their Home Improvement Contractor number and any local license your municipality requires.

  • Pennsylvania leaves plumber licensing to municipalities. Philadelphia licenses master plumbers through Licenses and Inspections, and the Allegheny County Health Department licenses plumbers in Allegheny County.
  • Contractors doing more than $5,000 of home improvement work a year must register with the Pennsylvania Attorney General and show their HIC number on ads, contracts and estimates.
  • Registered contractors must carry at least $50,000 of liability coverage for bodily injury and $50,000 for property damage.

Gas leaks are different. If you smell gas, leave the building and call 911 or your gas utility first. See our gas leak detection page for every Pennsylvania gas utility’s emergency number.

Leak Detection Versus Calling a General Plumber

Most homeowners call a general plumber first. Many plumbers are excellent at repairs, but finding a hidden leak is a separate skill with separate equipment.

A leak detection visit is built around evidence. The goal is to answer three questions before anyone picks up a saw: is there a leak, which line is it on, and exactly where on that line. The EPA’s WaterSense program estimates that 1 in 10 homes has leaks wasting 90 gallons or more a day. Most of those are simple. The ones that are not simple are the ones we exist for.

If you already know where the leak is, a plumber is the right call. If you do not, call us first, then hand your plumber a marked spot and a report. Start with the homepage overview or the high water bill guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a plumbing company?

No. Pennsylvania Leak Detection is a leak detection referral service. Your call connects you with an independent local leak detection professional, who performs the testing and writes your report.

How do I reach you?

Call (833) 768-3032. The line is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Calling is the fastest way to get help.

Do you serve my town?

We take calls from all 67 Pennsylvania counties. Our service area pages cover our busiest communities in detail. Call with your ZIP code to confirm timing.

How much does a visit cost?

The price is quoted on the phone before testing starts. National guides put most leak detection between about $150 and $600, with complex slab and service line jobs higher.

Yes. Every visit ends with a written report covering readings, methods, the leak location with photos, the likely cause and repair options.

Can you help with a high water bill dispute?

We can document whether a leak exists and where it is. That report, plus a paid repair invoice, is the evidence most utilities ask for when you request a credit or dispute a bill.

Hearing Water You Cannot See? Call Now.

A rising water bill, a wet basement wall or a soggy strip of lawn will not fix itself. Call any hour and we will help you find the leak, prove it and keep the repair as small as possible.
